Light floors are still strong, but more and more people are now opening their eyes to other shades and styles, say the experts.

- People have clearly become more aware that the floor has a lot to say.We still sell a lot of light-colored floors, but more go towards gray and slightly darker colours, says Tommy Holmberg, at Maxbo Holmen, in Asker. Plastic Wall Skirting

In autumn 2017, Jotun launched a new version of the popular LADY Pure Color, which is their most matte paint ever.Holmberg says that they now see the same tendencies on floors.

- This year's big news is completely matte floors, completely without gloss, from the floor supplier Kährs. It does not reflect in the sun, and looks very delicate and exclusive.

- We are starting to move a little away from the funk style, and the tight and minimalist.Although it is still popular, we see that people are becoming more and more interested in creating a cozy home, with more colors and soft and cozy textiles such as velor. We have thought about this when we have developed this year's novelties, says Tove Marie Langøy, at the flooring supplier Berry Alloc.

Langøy says that the new floors have a "soft look".

- The new collection is cleaner, with white twigs. At the same time, we see tendencies that we are moving more towards brown and slightly darker colours.

Did you think lists had to be white?Add color to the floorboards!

- In recent years, many people have chosen bright floors. Are we moving away from that?

- There is still a lot going on in white and grey, and the big sellers are still the same.People are probably still a little afraid to stand out, and rather drive "safe".That being said, we sell a lot of this year's novelties, with a so-called soft look.

The floor has a great influence on the expression and atmosphere of a room, and is often left for many years. Most people are therefore concerned that the floor they choose should withstand wear and tear, and preferably also become more beautiful with time.At the same time, many are keen to keep up with the trends, say the experts.

The flooring supplier Tarkett believes that personal expression is one of this year's big trends.

- The floor trends for 2018 and 2019 are based on trend reports and trend scouting worldwide. We have divided the trends into four different themes, says Ingeborg Bigum Borgen, marketing manager at Tarkett.

"Celebrating Seasons" is inspired by the Nordic style, which is characterized by quality, natural materials and a stylish, minimalist expression.

"New Folk" reflects a mix of influences from different countries and cultures, which illustrates that we allow ourselves to be inspired by travels and impressions from the wider world.Beautiful craftsmanship, colorful and homely are used to describe this style.

"Soft Silence" is a more classic theme, where the traditionally clean style has developed into a sophisticated and modern design.Typical of this trend are design classics and soft, sensual colours.

"Oh happy days" has a playful, young and fresh expression, with a mix of colours, patterns and materials in focus.

How to maintain the parquet

Laying floors is a job most people can fix themselves, with a little guidance, says Holmberg.

- It is really very simple, and when you have laid three or four tables you will feel that you have mastered it.At Maxbo, you get tips and advice on how to do the job, and all the equipment you need.On our YouTube channel you will also find lots of useful videos that can be of help, he advises.

You need this for work - and this is how you do it

According to Holmberg, one of the most important things you should think about when changing floors is the substrate.

- The floor will never be better than the substrate you choose. If you lay an expensive floor and a cheap underlay, you run the risk of it creaking and swaying when you walk.

He recommends stopping by a Maxbo store and getting help choosing the best substrate for your project.

The Maxbo expert believes it is important to think about the room as a whole when laying new flooring, and does not think people should be afraid to find their personal style.

- The lighter the floor, the larger the room appears. Many choose a white oil to renew the floor they already have.If you have a lot of light furniture, however, it can be cool with a dark floor.

TIP: Avoid yellow wooden floors with lye and soap treatment

The size of the floorboards can also have a great impact on the feeling of space. The wider the tables, the larger the room will appear, Holmberg explains.

- Fortunately, we have moved away from the wooden parquet in oak, which absolutely everyone had for many years. Now most people choose wide single-pole tables, or midi planks from Tarkett. They are 13.4 centimeters wide, and give a great expression, he says.
